Over 30,000 civilians fled their homes in eastern Bago Region’s Kyaukkyi Township due to clashes between regime forces and the Karen National Union (KNU). This mass flight was triggered by the military’s use of airstrikes and heavy artillery in retaliation for attacks on five junta army outposts by the KNU.
Furthermore, last week, the Military Council was assisting with airstrikes to defend Ukrihta military base near Wale Township, Southern Myawaddy, Karen State, to prevent the base from falling into a joint force of the Karen National Union (KNU), the Karen national Defence Organization (KNDO) and local PDFs. The people from nearby villages are fleeing due to the multiple airstrikes.
On 2nd July, the airstrikes over two villages in Mindat township, Chin State killed three civilians and injured 11 persons while destroying civilians’ properties.
The military had been using heavy artillery and airstrikes to crush the PDFs and also set fire to villages across Myanmar.
