For the past four years, one of our partner organizations has been running a soy milk distribution outreach in the slums. During the past three waves of COVID, the spread was so serious — spreading among the ministry workers themselves — that they had to put the distribution on hold. Because the spread has slowed, both between the workers and within the slums, they have been able to resume the project!
In a study completed in nearby Bangladesh in 2019, Md. Iqbal Hossain, Sayeeda Huq, and other researchers discovered the benefits of soy protein in caring for the severely malnourished. Soy protein was found to be a high-quality, effective, and inexpensive ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) for combating severe malnutrition in children, comparable to cow’s milk. Our partners are able to distribute soy milk across seven different locations to 1600 children living in the slums. They normally share the Gospel in these same seven areas.
Bringing soy milk not only meets tangible needs, but also testifies to the truth of the Gospel. It tells the people that the Lord is not super-spiritual, only caring for their eternal salvation and moral righteousness, but a God who cares for them in their current suffering. He is an immanent God. Their witness testifies that He is the kind of God who would come to earth, wrapped in flesh, for us.
To give towards this ministry, click the button below:
- Pray that the Lord provides and cares for these hungry children and their families.
- Pray that the believers’ soy milk distribution would glorify God and bear witness to the truth and love of Christ in these neighborhoods.
