For the first time in history, all the monasteries in Myanmar are closed and the prayers and chants have come to a standstill. The monks are out in the streets, wearing regular clothes as part of the Civil Disobedience Movement. According to people in country, all NGO’s have stopped or been forced to stop their activity. They say no one has gone to work for the past six months. Inflation is on the rise; $1 USD used to be worth 1500 kyat, but now it is worth 2000. People in Yangon hear around 10 bombs go off every single day. Township leaders are found dead in different places on a daily basis. Gangsters run whole areas. People are suffering in so many ways, and yet the Lord is moving. The Lord is moving with speed and brilliance all over Myanmar, right in front of our eyes.
People who have never heard the Gospel before, who knew nothing of Jesus or the Bible, are running to believers, begging to be baptized. Jesus is visiting them in their dreams. They see a Man in white, have visions of Heaven and Hell, feel the hands of God cupping their face or touching their head, are healed of physical wounds and illnesses, and witness the Lord’s miracles in response to their prayers and petitions. Often, the believers will speak with people, saying, “Wait, don’t you want to know more about Jesus before you decide to be baptized?” They refuse to wait, insisting, “No, we just want to get baptized.”
One ministry is baptizing 30 to 50 people, who come from a completely different religious background, every week! These new believers are incredibly zealous for the Lord. They know very little of Scripture, but they know that God answers their prayers. Rumors are spreading through neighborhoods: Jesus, He is the answer! From home to home, from people preaching outside shops and on the streets, rumors testifying to the power and love of God are running everywhere. Not only does word spread, but power! People are praying to the Lord in response to these rumors, and watching God answer them. New and old believers come together and share what the Lord is doing in their lives on a weekly basis.
A single ministry has seen over 1,000 new believers and are continuing to see more and more come to the Lord. The hand of God is on this nation and on these people. Praise the Lord for His great mercy and power, for answering our prayers, for being the God who rides across the clouds to rescue us! Oh, He is mighty to save! Bless the Lord!
1. Pray for the Lord to overabundantly provide ministries and churches in order to meet the discipleship needs of all these new believers.
2. Pray for safety and the continuation of the work. Pray the Lord continues to blind the eyes of authorities that would try to stop them.
