Myanmar’s military has increased its airstrikes and attacks on the People’s Defense Forces, ethnic armed organizations, refugee camps, and residential areas. As of late January 2022, the military junta has killed at least 1,488 people and detained at least 11,650 people, and military air raids have displaced an estimated 200,000 civilians.
The United Nations’ Special Envoy for Myanmar Noeleen Heyzer proposed a humanitarian aid program to help affected communities. Three of Myanmar’s ethnic organizations urged the international community to negotiate a military no-fly zone, humanitarian corridors, and civilian safe zones such as schools and hospitals.
Prayer Requests
Pray for the Lord to protect Myanmar’s civilians, potentially through international negotiations, and ultimately by His mighty hand. Pray for the repentance and salvation of the junta, so that they turn away from violence to worship and follow Jesus, the Prince of peace (Isaiah 9:6).
