In the words of one coworker here at GSI, “Every time I hear about [our ministry partner]’s heart for Rakhine state, it blows me away. Many people in Myanmar, including believers, have nothing but fear and hatred for Rakhine, not just the Rohingya. It is such a direct testimony to the Spirit’s work that there are faithful believers living out the heart of Jesus in this place.”
A few believers are pushing back against ethnic prejudice towards the Rakhine and Rohingya. Captured by the love of God for these long unloved people, they have been ministering to the impoverished in Rakhine State. They minister to the people by supplying them with pigs or goats to start animal husbandry farms. The family then raises and cares for their animals, and once they’ve grown large enough to sell, they share the profits with the ministry. With the profits the family keeps, they are able to buy more pigs or goats, growing their farm and increasing their profits. With the profits the ministries receive, they are able to go out and buy more pigs and goats to help more families start and grow sustainable businesses.
This ministry invested in the life of one Rakhine widow, helping her start a pig farm. Because of the success of that pig farm, she was able to support her two children and start another small business, selling a traditional Rakhine salad. Another woman, a Rakhine Christian, has laid down the hate and unforgiveness built between her people and her Rohingya neighbors for the sake of the Gospel. She tries to help many Rohingya women with their goat farms, building relationship with her neighbors.
1. Pray the Lord blesses these pig and goat farms, giving these families success and income to support themselves.
2. Pray God softens many more believers towards their Rakhine and Rohingya neighbors, convicting them to love and care for these people He loves.
