“Surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off.”
The Myanmar military has used a brutal tactic known as the “four cuts” against resistance groups since the 1960s. The four cuts method aims to strangle resistance groups by cutting off access to food, recruits, funds, and intelligence. They do this by attacking civilians, burning villages, arresting anyone suspected of supporting the resistance, and using widespread sexual assault.
As armed resistance to the recent coup grows, the military is beginning to resort to these brutal tactics once again. Hundreds of thousands of people have fled their homes and many civilians have died. The people who suffer at the hands of this tactic — losing loved ones, homes, livestock, and more — often respond with hatred, vengeance, and bitterness.
- Pray for protection and safety for the people of Myanmar, and for them to find a hope that cannot be cut off in our sovereign, loving God.
- Pray that they would not turn to vengeance and hatred, but would run to Jesus, the God who knows their pain and promises rest to all who come to Him.
