Jesus, the light of the world

This is the season of Thadingyut in Myanmar. Thadingyut is called the festival of lights as the followers of Buddha lit up their houses and temples to mark the return of Buddha. Towns and villages across Myanmar will be illuminated in honor of this auspicious event.

In the Bible, Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12) What does Jesus mean by saying he is the light of the world? The light gives two main benefits: illumination and life. Jesus came into the world to show the way to salvation by breaking the sins of the world on the cross and to give eternal life to those whoever believes in Him.

In another occasion, Jesus told the followers, “You are the light of the world…let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Mt.5:14,16). As the followers of Jesus, let us live as the children of the light and glorify God’s name in every situation.

Prayer Requests

Pray that God will use this festival of lights to reveal Jesus in their lives and shines His favors and blessings of salvation upon them. Pray that the believers in Myanmar may shine their light in their community through their good deeds and lifestyles.
