Bago Region faced the worst seasonal flooding in 60 years during the first two weeks of October which submerged 80 percent of Bago City. It was noted about 30,000 residents had to seek relief camps, and relied on donations for food and water from communities.
While resettlement works are yet to be solved, farmers in the region reported that it’s expected tens of thousands of acres of paddy fields nearing harvest were flooded. Subsequently, more than 2,200 acres of fish ponds were also affected by the flooding in the area. Details of the disruption and devastation is yet to be confirmed.
Similarly, DVB stated on October 17th daily news that more than 10,000 flood-affected people in the villages of Hlegu Township are still seeking support and the 50 plus schools have been closed.
Today, we declare God’s words – While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease (Genesis 8:22) – over the fields and ponds in Pegu and other climate affected areas throughout the country. Amen!
We also pray for God’s provision and protection for the flooding affected families and the resettlement arrangement.
