“…through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look.”
1 Peter 1:12
There is a growing dissonance between Burmese Buddhist teaching and the reality of daily life in Myanmar. Buddhism teaches that the path to escape suffering is detachment from life; it is common for men, even in their 40’s and 50’s, to abandon their families and spend the rest of their lives seeking Enlightenment in Buddhist monasteries. This contrasts sharply with the daily realities of violence, vengeance, and heroism being lived out in Myanmar, from the burning hatred many carry against the Tatmadaw to civilians of every stripe and ethnicity risking their lives to fight for their communities and personal freedoms they care for deeply. Whether the everyday Buddhist realizes it or not, Buddhism is not able to offer a satisfying life answer for the suffering and deep yearnings of Myanmar’s people.

Prayer Requests
1. Pray that Myanmar’s current instability and turmoil would shake the stronghold of Buddhism in Myanmar, causing many Buddhists to realize that their faith cannot give them the answers they seek.
2. Pray that the people of Myanmar would hunger for the hope of the Gospel and find that all their longings are satisfied in Jesus.
