Power of God amongst the poor
“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners…” Isaiah 61:1
The situation in Myanmar is increasingly desperate as one in four people are impoverished and increasingly facing food scarcity. However, the intense pain of poverty is shaking people awake out of the numbness of Buddhism and into the powerful love of Jesus. Perhaps more so now than ever before in the history of this country, we are seeing people respond to the Gospel, as it is presented in words and in loving actions, at such a rate that it is difficult to track. The people of Myanmar are meeting the powerful love of God as through His people He provides community meal distributions, cooking supplies, nutritious soymilk, and in so many other ways. The most desperate of situations are often the very stage God uses to radically display His glory.
1. Pray for the Lord to reveal Himself as the One who both cares and has the power to provide.
2. Pray for the Beatitudes over the poor in Myanmar, that new believers may see Jesus as their great reward and be empowered to live this way.
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they wil lbe called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 5:3-10
