“See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.”
A five year old girl in Kalay was paralyzed when shrapnel from fighting outside her house pierced her temple. Her father did not have the money to send her to Mandalay for treatment, and even if he could afford it, he was afraid the COVID situation would make it unlikely the hospital would receive her.
According to the UN Child Rights Committee, 75 children have been killed in the violence of Myanmar’s recent coup, including a six year old girl who was shot in the stomach and killed by police in Mandalay. The military junta is receiving backlash on the international political stage, not only for killing children, but also for their hundreds of child arrests — arbitrarily arresting children when they are unable to arrest their parents. A twelve year old boy, his father, and a 15 year old boy who worked in their restaurant were arrested on charges of creating or possessing explosives associated with the People’s Defense Force, and a five year old girl was arrested in place of her father, who organized anti-military protests.
- Mourn before the Lord over the loss of these precious children and every injustice they face. Cry out for the Lord’s justice on their behalf.
- Pray comfort and forgiveness in the hearts of the parents, and in the hearts of children who still live.
