“Down in a lowly manger
Our humble Christ was born
And brought us all salvation
That blessed Christmas morn
Go, tell it on the mountain”
In Luke 2, the angel proclaimed to the shepherds: “I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people.” The shepherds went straight to Bethlehem to see Jesus, and then they spread the word to others. Just like the shepherds, when we experience the lavish, extravagant love of God for ourselves, the natural byproduct is that we have to tell someone else the Good News!
Jesus showed us what it means to love our enemies and to bless those who are persecuting us. He told his disciples, “This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that a person will lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:12-13). Jesus laid His life down. May we be amazing recipients of His love and power so that we can “Go, tell it on the mountains” with “glad tidings of great joy!”
